Born in 1955 and growing up a ‘military brat’, Linda travelled extensively across Canada, finally settling in Alberta. Her creative ability was readily evident as a child and eventually was able to follow her destiny. Her education consists of formal training in Red Deer College (Art & Design) and University of Calgary BFA program, as well as numerous workshops with acclaimed artists. Linda is a prolific artist and enjoys a variety of tools (her favourite being the palette knife) and subjects. Living in Calgary and painting full-time since 2004, she has enjoyed numerous successes, awards, and accolades. Linda’s paintings are enjoyed in both corporate and private collections across Canada and world-wide.

With intuitive energy and the use of bold strokes, light, and texture, Linda strives to capture the mood and emotion of her environment. Her paintings can appear vividly representational, but upon closer inspection, one can see the intimate nuances and abstract tendencies which elevate and enrich her work.

Artist’s Statement

“Art is a way of life and I create 24 hours a day… maybe not always holding a brush, but by seeing, thinking, and feeling. All my paintings are inspired in some way or another by the environment surrounding me, whether it be a specific mountain, waterfall, or an abstract shape. If my heart skips a beat, I take a second look to absorb and analyze. The simplest things capture my attention: the way light bounces off the water and rocks in a stream, the contrast of snow against the warm under brush, creating abstracted forms… it all sparks an emotional chord.

The environment stimulates your senses as you breathe the fresh air taking in all the sights and sounds; a truly awe inspiring and humbling experience. My paintings are my personal response to my surroundings as I try and bridge the gap between reality and abstraction.” – Linda Wilder
