I find an energizing solace in the natural world. When I travel to remote areas of the BC coast to paint on location I always return with a sense of awe and wonder… and a significant number of plein-air paintings under my arm. These paintings have the ability to magically transport me back to these places in the blink of an eye. Both San Josef Bay Reflections, and Hiellen Estuary, Haida Gwaii, evolved from plein-air paintings that provided not only the source of their content, but far more importantly the source of my memory of the far reaching beauty, energy, and uplifting wildness of this extraordinary place we call home. – Maria Josenhans
