Bob’s fascination with textures developed during his working career as an exploration geologist. Observing and interpreting subtle textures in rocks while on the job evolved into seeing textures as a familiar but important part of our everyday visual landscape.

VANCE THEORET

Cinnamon Swirls by Vance Theoret at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Cinnamon Swirls
Brazilian Soapstone, Indian Soapstone (base) 7 x 4.5 x 6
$400

Vance likes to let the stone guide him, allowing it to reveal what it wants to become. He finds the result is more alive than if he forced his own design. This approach allows the natural colours and patterns of the stone to emerge in ways that couldn’t be planned better. While he takes his work seriously, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, which adds a light playfulness to much of his art!
