EUNMI CONACHER

Anchorage by Eunmi Conacher at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada

Anchorage
Acrylic on canvas 48 x 48
$5800

As a contemporary impressionist and expressionist artist, my desire is to create paintings which bring energy to the canvas… more an expression of the mood in the scene rather than a realistic picture. I use depth of colour and form to balance realism and abstract. My hope is that viewers connect emotionally with my paintings in their own way. – Eunmi Conacher

JANIS WOODE

Passage by Janis Woode at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada

Passage
Plate Steel, Wrapped Copper Wire 74.5 x 15.5 x 16.5
$7500

The desire to create art has been with me for as long as I can remember. It satisfies a kind of primal urge to construct. The winding of the figures, for me, is a very intimate experience. It is where I try to translate the emotion or movement of the piece. – Janis Woode

JO LUDWIG

‘ToBs’ (Things of Beauty)
Glass, L to R: 2.2″ diameter, 2.75″ diameter, 2.4″ diameter
Left to Right: $200, $275 and $225

We’re thrilled to welcome Jo Ludwig’s newest collection of dazzling “ToBs”, that is, “Things of Beauty.” ToBs are made with dichroic glass – the iridescent butterfly-wing-coloured pieces radiate light. The creation of these jewel-like works of art is Jo’s passion.

‘ToBs’ (Things of Beauty)
Glass, L to R: 1.6″ diameter, 1.6″ diameter, 3″ diameter, 2″ diameter
Left to Right: $150, $150, $325, $175

At one time, beauty was necessary, even the principal quality in works of art. Sometimes beauty alone was sufficient. Today, beauty is not [considered] necessary and certainly not sufficient. For … [some artists]… beauty seems almost to be detrimental. My work addresses this issue. – Jo Ludwig

Glass, L to R: 2″ diameter, 3.25″ diameter, 1.5″ diameter

Sterling Silver, Pinolith and Serpentine Earrings

I am one of the few metal artists in the country extensively using stone inlay in my work and I constantly experiment to find unexpected and non-traditional ways of incorporating stone into jewellery pieces. I love to play with the surprise of asymmetrical designs and unexpected material combinations. – Brenda Roy

CAROLYN HOUG

My sculptures are playful and quirky and often place the subjects in unlikely situations. Birds are riding when they can fly; polar bears sailing when they can swim. Many of my characters act against their usual instincts; sweet lions and fierce rabbits. All are meant to have us pause and consider all we have in common with our fellow creatures. – Carolyn Houg
