Teardrop Bottle (Black) by Derek Kasper at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Teardrop Bottle (Black)
Porcelain 11 x 6
$125

The appearance is enhanced with a classical crazed surface similar to ancient celadons. The shading of the various glaze layers really makes the textured surface pop. All the interior texture is done at the throwing stage by a process called “chattering” which is done at high speed using edged ribs to create the undulating and repeating patterns on the wet and sticky clay surface. – Derek Kasper

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Let’s give hungry BC kids once less thing to worry about…

With Halloween wearing a different mask this year, in lieu of buying candy for trick-or-treaters, The Avenue Gallery will proudly make its second annual donation to Backpack Buddies.

Backpack Buddies is an established Vancouver-based charity fighting child hunger, that has now expanded to eight Greater Victoria schools. This worthwhile organization provides backpacks filled with food for the weekend to 234 local children in need, filling the ‘weekend hunger gap’. Hunger doesn’t take the weekend off and children shouldn’t have to suffer.

Last year we were able to help fill over a dozen backpacks for a weekend. (At just $15, a backpack of food contains nine meals and extra snacks so that a child has enough to eat over the weekend, plus a couple extra meals for the week ahead.)

For more information about Backpack Buddies, contact Michelle Vanderzon at Michelle@BackpackBuddies.ca.
