First Flight
Saltspring Island Big Leaf Maple Burl with Granite Base, 23 x 18 x 9
$975
All my source material is burl from downed Big Leaf Maples that would otherwise rot or become firewood. There’s lots of science and writing now on the “secret” life of trees. This has encouraged my theory that each tree stores memories in its burls. If fortunate, I find an expression of that memory in my carving. Maybe, over the life of this particular maple, it was home to a nest. – Bruce Edmundson
