LORNA DOCKSTADER

Bathed in Light by Lorna Dockstader at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Bathed in Light
Acrylic on canvas 36 x 24
$2400

Recent hikes through a forest reminded me of time spent walking through the Douglas firs in Cathedral Grove. I loved the way the light filtered through their tops, and behind their trunks and branches. The branches created a dark tracery around the shades of light, creating the impression of stained glass. This is how it felt inside a west coast forest. – Lorna Dockstader

CAROLYN HOUG

Seriously? by Carolyn Houg at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Seriously?
Ceramic 13.5 x 10 x 10
$650

Carolyn’s latest whimsical bunnies are sure to make you smile…

My sculptures are playful and quirky and often place the subjects in unlikely situations. Birds are riding when they can fly; polar bears sailing when they can swim. Many of my characters act against their usual instincts; sweet lions and fierce rabbits. All are meant to have us pause and consider all we have in common with our fellow creatures. – Carolyn Houg

MARY-JEAN BUTLER

Beacon I
Oil on canvas 12 x 24
$1100

This painting explores the coastline around Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver – the afternoon light had shifted and bathed the rocky bluff in deep oranges and reds. The ocean and sky both felt unsettled as if a storm was approaching. – Mary-Jean Butler

$2800

Mary-Jean’s oil paintings reflect the rugged landscape of British Columbia’s coastline. Her education in both fine art and graphic design play a strong role in the stylization of her work.

GUY HOLLINGTON

Copper Blue with White and Silver Leaf by Guy Hollington at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Copper Blue with White and Silver Leaf
Glass 16 x 10 x 4
$450

Thin silver leaf is added to this piece towards the end of the blowing process. As the piece is blown out further, the silver stretches and tears into an interesting mottled pattern. The silver has oxidized slightly turning almost gold in colour. – Guy Hollington

The deep blue of this piece is subdivided over and over by a thin white line. – Guy Hollington

We gave the three raku vessels by Geoff Searle to the three women who made our wedding day so special. I had seen Geoff’s work on the gallery’s website and was astonished by its beauty and the peaceful energy that you feel while touching them… Each recipient was delighted and in awe by their beauty.
