Description
Veteran by Bruce Edmundson
“Veteran is inspired by my days as a timber cruiser. In forest management a “veteran” tree is defined by its characteristics such as its height, decay, cavities, or a dead and or broken top, regardless of its actual age. These features are often a result of damage from weather, animals, forest fires, lightning or even past forest management practices, all of which the tree has survived. They were usually much older than the stand of timber which they oversaw. From one point of view, they were unlucky, crooked, split, discoloured, and asymmetric; from another they were magnificent survivors. It was an occasion to come across these “vets”, and we did our best to maintain them.” – Bruce Edmundson
