Storm Jib by Bruce Edmundson
A friend shared a note from a retired health care public servant who, during the first weeks of the pandemic, wrote to friends to encourage best practises and a positive mien. The writer spoke of his sailing background, his experience fighting previous outbreaks, and the confidence he had in our health care professionals. Based on a shared love of sailing, the author also recommended a storm jib to help navigate these tumultuous times. It brought an immediate image to mind. He counselled that each of us devise our own personal jib, be it a metaphor or a sail, noting at the end how the history of stormy weather is writ by the sailors who prepared well. – Bruce Edmundson
