Description
Large Graal Bowl (Yellow) by Naoko Takenouchi
For these beautiful, intricately worked bowls, Naoko is using the Graal technique which was developed by Swedish glass workers during the 1920’s. It is a multi-step process whereby a ‘blank’ of coloured glass is shaped on a blow pipe, knocked off and annealed in a kiln over night. Once it cools down to room temperature, the design is applied by the sandblasting process. The blank is then brought up to temperature slowly in a kiln, picked up on the blowing pipe, reheated, shaped and blown into its final form.
