“Forest Study began from a photo I took on a hike, but was not yet completed when I went travelling. In Tokyo, I visited an embroidery exhibit, especially the work of Mika Okada, which was incredibly inspiring. Her colour palette and the way she brought landscapes to life with thread opened a whole new way of seeing the piece.
When I returned home, I approached the painting with that perspective in mind. The result is warm, layered, and contemporary, with marks and colours that feel completely fresh.” – Stephanie Taylor
