The sculptural form and the tactile surfaces of Peter’s woodturning echo the strength of the island trees from which they are made. He thinks of his art as a collaboration between the artist’s will and the will of the natural material in the artist’s hands. He is concerned that we protect the natural world, as it, alone, protects us.

Peter has worked with wood since he was a boy, making furniture and sculpture. Since moving to Vancouver Island in 2018, he has worked exclusively as a woodturner.

Previously, Peter was an internationally recognized researcher in applications of lasers to chemistry and a senior research administrator, both in Ottawa and Alberta. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
