“Another of my favorite places to paint is the Sunshine Coast, the arbutus trees are abundant here and seem particularly vibrant in colour.

Last summer I hiked up Pender Hill, which is located adjacent to the ocean in Pender Harbour. It was my first hike in this particular area, and I was so taken by the beauty of the soft green moss, and sunburnt grasses which covered the entire mountain top. The twisting branches, play of light and saturation of colour were my inspiration in painting this tree and its surroundings.” – Mary-Jean Butler
