Behind the Shadow by Marianne Meyer at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Behind the Shadow

Acrylic and charcoal on canvas 24 x 24

$690

My work is always changing, which gives me the pleasure to experiment and to move forward. I work and re-work my paintings until I reach the point when I feel that they express just the right amount of layering, structure and depth. The final colour constellations invite the viewer to find their own personal experience of my pieces. I believe that that’s what art should do. – Marianne Meyer

DEREK KASPER

Galaxies Collide

Ceramic 14.5 x 14 x 12

$650

Galaxies Collide is one of a continuing series of expanded cubic forms created from 6 stoneware bowl shapes joined on curving miters, with additions of thrown necks and feet. Images are created by imprinting into the soft clay before forming. Multiple glaze firings build up the complexity and depth of the glaze surface. – Derek Kasper

Tranquil Waves, Above by Derek Kasper at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Tranquil Waves, Above

Ceramic 7 x 22

$500

Tranquil Waves, Above, made from a white porcelaneous stoneware, is an attempt to push the limits of size and shape without collapsing. In order to create the wavelike texture the piece must be spun very fast on the wheel during throwing, further testing the centering and cohesion of the shape. A highly coloured but translucent blue glaze blends nicely over the black and mysterious centre. – Derek Kasper

BILL BOYD

White Crawl Bulb by Bill Boyd at The Avenue Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Bulb, White Crawl Glaze

Ceramic 9.5 x 10.5

$650

After visiting the deserts of Mexico in January, I drew inspiration from the cracked patterns of the dried riverbeds. Upon returning home in rainy February, I was motivated to do some testing in my workshop. I have always been interested in the more primitive, natural, less glossy aspect of what potters call the ‘crawling glaze’, as it shrinks and crawls across the clay. – Bill Boyd
