Canada Landscape I by Rob Elphinstone

“This painting represents as much of Canada as I could manage in a single coherent landscape. With a backdrop of both northern and southern mountains, the Kluane Glacier in the Yukon leads the eye to eastern lake country and rolling hills. The glaciers to the right come down from Hound’s tooth in the Bugaboos with autumn colours predominating the middle ground of hills and fields. The Hopwell seastacks in New Brunswick is representative of the incredible Canadian ocean scenery with the wild west coast vegetation dominating the foreground. Both the styles of Emily Carr and the Group of Seven provided obvious inspiration for the structures underlying my thick impasto style. No palette knives are used in the making of my paintings.” – Rob Elphinstone
