Laurie has been working with wood for 53 years as a carpenter, a construction entrepreneur, a fine woodworker and a turner.

Throughout his years making unique woodworks, Laurie has discovered a passion for the dynamic differences in colour, contrast, grain and spalting in the many wood species he has had the pleasure of finding across Canada.

It can take a long time to best understand how to turn a rough piece of wood into a form that best highlights its colour and shape. Laurie tries to feature the natural in all his work, from live edge to knots to bark covered holes.

Laurie hails originally from Northwestern Ontario, and lives in Victoria during the winter months; finding unique and rare species of wood along his bi-annual journeys.
