Kathi Bond is a White Rock sculptor, who has a passion for carving marble, alabaster and soapstone. She studied sculpture at the Art Academy of Vancouver and sits on the Board of Directors of the West Coast Sculptors’ Association. Kathi loves to work with soapstone, as the vast spectrum of mineral content produces a variety of colours that bring life to her work. The texture and tactile aspects of the medium guide her in letting the finished sculpture, be it animal or human, emerge from the stone, still appearing in motion.
She was born in Niagara Falls and has lived in the greater Vancouver area for the last 18 years. Kathi studied French at McMaster University and taught in both France and Canada. After mastering four languages, she is happiest letting the stone speak to her informing her most creative work.
Kathi teaches soapstone carving at local schools and community centres and hopes to inspire another generation of stone artists.
