Throughout my career in Biochemistry I had always been interested in the arts so it was with delight, upon my retirement, that I returned to university for a degree in History in Art followed by silver-smithing courses at Camosun College, Victoria BC. The properties of silver enable it to be cut and shaped in a great variety of ways. With this medium design is limited only by one’s imagination, stimulated by the flora, fauna and scenery surrounding us in our beautiful Pacific coast. The design and fabrication of jewellery with semi-precious beads and stones framed in silver is truly magical for me, especially when the pieces so often make the wearer feel so very special. - Doreen Schneider
